Gallery One

Welcome to Gallery One

Our current exhibit, “Cultures in Conflict: Perú,” features a collection of photographs and textiles representing a small part of the history of the Osmore River Valley and the city of Ayacucho.

Every year WCC sends a group of radiology students to Perú to assist researchers working at Centro Mallqui in excavating and radiographing the mummy bundles of ancient indigenous peoples.

The exhibit runs from Feb. 22 to Mar. 30, and a reception will be held Thursday, Mar. 8, from 5:00pm to 7:30pm at Gallery One. The reception will be accompanied by a talk at 6:30pm in the gallery, at which Jim Skufis, Radiography Project leader and WCC faculty member, will speak on Perú’s Chiribaya people.

Related events include a arpilleras (textiles) demonstration by Perúvian artist Flora Zárate on Mar. 8 at 1:00pm in TI 133, and a poetry reading led by WCC faculty member Maryam Barrie on Mar. 14 at 11:00am in Gallery One.

Gallery One is dedicated to developing and presenting exhibitions that are enjoyable, educational, and challenging. We strive to have them serve as a reflection of and an impetus for the mingling of the interests, ideas, and passions of students, artists, and community members.

Gallery One is located on the first floor of WCC’s Student Center building. Its hours are Monday and Tuesday from 10:00am to 6:00pm, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am to 8:00pm, and Friday from 10:00am to noon.

An archive of past exhibits is available online.
