Campus Services
Welcome to Washtenaw Community College and The Campus Services Department. We are a multi-operational,
proactive department dedicated to servicing the college community in a timely, cost efficient
manner. We are located at the far northeast corner of the campus in the Storage and Receiving
Building. Our normal hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The main
services that we provide the college with are as follows:
Central Stores:
The Central Stores operation is responsible for establishing business relationships in order
to provide commonly used products and/or services to the college at discounted rates, to
maintain a stores inventory and to remain compliant with the business practices of Washtenaw
Community College.
Distribution:
Campus Services is responsible for distributing both internal and external items around campus.
These can include mail, Central Stores items, Warehousing and Surplus Furniture. However, we
also pick-up and deliver to off campus locations based upon specific college needs.
Mail Services:
The Mail Services operation is responsible for making sure the College remains compliant with
all United States Postal Services' Regulations and Guidelines. As well as managing the daily
sorting, transporting, distribution and processing of all incoming and outgoing College mail.
Additional services include folding, stuffing, inserting, tabbing and processing all
classifications of bulk mail.
Property Disposition:
This operation manages the sale of College equipment, supplies and materials no longer needed
by the College. Sales are held as needed and are setup as a garage-type environment. Sale
dates are announced via local public newspapers, internal publications as well as mailings
and e-mails. If you wish to be notified personally of upcoming sales please forward your email
address or (if you prefer a postcard) your mailing address to
Receiving:
The Receiving Operation is the central checkpoint for all goods delivered to the College.
This operation's main focus is to validate and document receipt of College ordered material
and to initiate action concerning damaged freight and problem items as related to incoming
goods. The operation is also responsible for initiating the College's compliance with "The
Michigan Right to Know Law".
Shipping:
This operation is the centralized point for all goods being shipped from the College. Currently
the college utilizes United Parcel Services, FedEx Air and Various Truck Freightliners in
fulfilling the College's shipping needs. This operation is responsible for remaining compliant
with Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations as well as those of specific carriers.
Surplus Furniture:
Stand alone furniture (tables, desks, file cabinets, chairs, etc) that are deemed still useful by
the College, are held for internal re-issue as requested. All obsolete furnishing are handled via
Property Disposition.
U/A Event:
Campus Services is one of the main service providers for an annual training event held on campus
for the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters. We manage a 3000 square foot on-site
storage facility, the incoming and out bound freight, ordering special needs items, as well as
distribution to and from campus classrooms and labs. Annually about 2000 professionals arrive for
a week of training and certification, utilizing 111 classrooms and labs while teaching 283
sections. This partnership signifies the ongoing commitment of the College and that of the local
community to support education on a variety of fronts and in different formats.
Universal Waste:
Under the umbrella of Property Disposition falls the responsibility of being compliant with the
State of Michigan's Universal Waste Law, which is regulated by the Department of Environmental
Quality (DEQ). This requires the College to properly collect, recycle, treat or dispose of
equipment or components that contain specific hazardous waste elements. Some of the types of
universal waste items would be computers, monitors, printers, electronic equipment, medical
devices, thermometers, batteries, electric lamps, wire, plastics, audio equipment, fax machines,
telephones, as well as additional items.

Warehouse Services:
Campus Services warehouses College publications for distribution; such as the WCC BULLETIN,
Live-Work-Learn, and CareerFocus.
