Classroom Services
Classroom Services is dedicated to supporting the instructional mission of the College. Washtenaw Community College (WCC) has over 180 instructional spaces on its campus; in addition to several off campus locations. Classroom Services provides audio-visual technology in support of classroom instruction.
Traditional technologies such as projection screens and overhead projectors are standard in all classrooms. In addition, numerous classrooms have dedicated TVs equipped with DVD or VCR players, audio tape players, CD players and slide projectors. Other services include providing instructional materials such as hard copy of photographic and digital graphic displays.
More advanced state of the art systems are also available. Over 125 instructional spaces are now classified as “Level III”, meaning that they are equipped with: multi-media (both video and data) projectors, faculty workstations and computers. In addition, portable systems are available upon request. Digital still cameras and camcorders are also available on a short term basis.
Combo Carts
Media Services has several "Combo Carts" which are portable Level III setups that can be moved to virtually any area on campus. A Combo Cart could include: a multi-media projector (video and data), computer/flat screen, dual-deck (VCR and DVD formats) and audio speakers. All the Combo Carts have Internet capability, and several are outfitted with wireless Internet wi-fi capability.
Semester Loan Combo Carts (SLCC)
In collaboration and joint funding with Deans and/or Department Chairs, Media Services can also arrange to provide Semester Loan Combo Carts (SLCC). The SLCCs will be placed in classrooms on a semester basis. The SLCCs will include: a multi-media projector, dual deck (VCR and DVD formats), audio speaker, computer/flat screen, and wi-fi capability.
Multimedia Presentation Station (MMPS)
Media Services has created one MMPS and it currently is being used in OE 166 by the Health Technology faculty. The MMPS was designed and created as a more functional, faculty-friendly multimedia workstation for teaching. Essentially the MMPS eliminates the traditional Level III instructional space which incorporated a permanent ceiling-mounted data projector and wiring to the teachers station in the front of the room. The MMPS includes: teaching station, data projector, document camera, computer/flat screen, dual deck (VCR and DVD formats), audio speaker and switcher/controller all in one unit.
The MMPS is mobile and self-contained. Shelves are angled for more convenient use. The MMPS is easy to use with the switcher/controller. It can be used in many general purpose classroom environments with seating for 30-45 students. The distance from the back of the MMPS to the projection screen must be at least six feet to accommodate a large enough image for all to view.
