Think about fire.
Can you imagine heat, color, and flames? Fire was the first chemical reaction people were able to produce and control.
Now think about lightning.
Can you picture streaks of electricity? The heat and energy of a lightning bolt
cause gases to form that are called nitrogen oxides. Those nitrogen oxides dissolve
in raindrops, which seep into the ground and are changed into nitrates, which serve as fertilizer.
Surprised?
If you study chemistry, you might find itís full of surprises. Chemistry is the study of
substances that make up the universe, and it examines how those substances behave under different
circumstances. At WCC, chemistry classes are available to students with no prior knowledge of the
field. Come in with curiosity, and weíll help you leave with knowledge.
The science requirements of a four-year
degree may be satisfied at WCC. Please see the
"Transfer Resources" section of this website for details.
