Click here for official Residential Design Advanced Certificate program description.

This program will prepare you for positions in residential construction planning and design where you will be expected to produce drawings, documentation, specifications, and proposals for residential construction projects. You will also be able to design and plan spaces for specialty homes; develop drawings for environmental systems; and interface with survey crews in the subdivision of tracts of land for real estate development.

Here's what you'll learn

By the time you finish the advanced certificate in Residential Design you will be comfortable with:
  • Design principles for residential construction

  • Development of construction documents and drawings

  • Development of site plans

  • Understanding of building codes

  • Know the fundamentals of space planning

What will I do?

As a technician, you will produce drawings, documentation, specifications, and proposals for residential construction projects; design and plan spaces for specialty homes; develop drawings for environmental systems; and interface with survey crews.

Where will I work?

More than likely you will work with an architectural or construction firm. With more experience and education you may decide to create your own company.

How much can I make?

The average income can range from $18/hr to $30/hr after a few years of experience.

What is my career path?

With experience and further education, you can move from entry level drafting and design positions into supervisory positions, sales, or become architects or builders.

The roadmap continues

To further your education WCC has developed an associate's degree that easily feeds into other four-year programs. Talk to a program advisor about how your credits can transfer.
