The WCC Foundation oversees both General Foundation Grants and grants from The H. Richard Crane Science Lab Endowment.

General Foundation Grant
Each year, the WCC Foundation typically has discretionary income that the Foundation Board of Directors makes available to support faculty and staff activities that benefit students. The Recipients page contains examples of past grantees. Applications are reviewed annually by a committee comprised of Foundation Board members, community volunteers, and a WCC Trustee. Grant recipients are announced each spring, however, funds are not available until July 1 of the next fiscal year.

Deadline: January 15, 2009 – Applications for 2009-2010

What do the General Foundation Grants fund?
These grants are intended to fund WCC projects or activities that directly benefit students. Activities that would not be eligible include, but are not limited to, funds for individual research projects, personal travel or other expenses, or payment for time spent on a project. For questions about eligible activity, email Krissa Rumsey at or phone at 734-973-3492 to discuss.

What is the approximate size of grants and how many are made each year?
The General Foundation grants typically vary in size from $1,000 - $10,000. In 2005-06, 14 awards were made out of 17 applicants.

How do I apply?
Download and submit the General Grant Application (PDF, 740 KB) either via campus mail or in person to the WCC Foundation (SC 306) before 5:00pm on January 15. Signatures of Deans and Department Chairs are needed, so please allow sufficient time for them to approve and sign the application.

The Foundation Grant Application is an interactive Adobe Acrobat file. If you do not already have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it for free from Adobe.

The H. Richard Crane Science Lab Endowment
The H. Richard Crane Science Lab endowment was established to build the capacity of science education within the departments of Life Sciences and Physical Sciences at Washtenaw Community College. Grants will be given for innovation in instruction, specifically lab instruction, including hands-on resources and both in class and supplementary access to resources. The endowment will make a total of $5,000 in awards each year, initially. There are two deadlines each year: July 1 and November 1. Download and submit the Crane Grant Application (PDF).
