  1. How to Fund a Media Project

    Prerequisite(s): "Computer Basics: (Windows or Mac)" or equivalent experience; word processing skills.

    Have an idea for a film or media project you'd like to produce, but don't know how or where to begin? Learn how to write proposals to obtain funding. Discover what goes into a successful project proposal, including a clear description of the project, the budget, the timeline, and other elements that funding sources will expect you to supply. Get ideas on where to find the money or resources you need to produce a successful result. Enhance your marketability as a creator/media producer — being able to write proposals heightens your employability and provides a life-long skill.

    Prerequisite(s): "Computer Basics: Mac and iMac" or equivalent experience.

    Illustrator is the leading vector-graphics drawing software for creating artwork for print, video, the Web, and mobile devices. Get started using the menus, palettes and cool built-in tools to express yourself and your ideas.

    The optional book, "Illustrator CS5 for Windows and MacIntosh," ISBN 9780321706614, is available at the WCC Bookstore. This workshop will be in a Mac lab.
    This class qualifies for 0.80 Continuing Education Units or Hours of Training provided by Washtenaw Community College.

    Art for art's sake was a major theme of the Italian Renaissance. Take yourself back in time to explore Italy in the Middle Ages and learn the context that shaped Renaissance art. You'll learn about various regions in Italy and their influences on the artists, painting, architecture, and sculpture of the period. Learn what role family patronage played during this time.   4. Jewelry Making and Metalsmithing 2

    Prerequisite(s): Jewelry Making and Metalsmithing 1 or equivalent experience.

    This continuing jewelry mini-course will build upon the basic techniques learned in Introduction to Jewelry Making/Metalsmithing. Students with this previous experience will have an opportunity to expand and learn new techniques not covered in the 8 week course. 4 sessions.

    Bring a sketchbook and pencil to first class. A materials kit is required and can be purchased at the Art Center for $40 for new students and $10 for returning students. This course includes 12 hours of Open Studio time to work beyond class time if you so choose. Open Studio hours are posted on the Art Center website and in the jewelry studio.

  5. Paper-Making 101

    Prerequisite(s): None.

    Discover the art and history of paper-making. With the help of a talented local paper artist, learn how to create your own hand-made paper at a local studio. Students will be introduced to the basics of papermaking from pulp preparation, sheet forming, pressing and drying. Once you have made enough paper, students will be shown how to create additional projects. 4 sessions.

    Prerequisite(s): "Computer Basics: Windows," or equivalent Windows class or experience.

    Photoshop Elements offers the power of full-blown Photoshop software at a fraction of the price and learning curve. Work with images from digital cameras or scanners. Correct color, change tonal values, repair damaged or less-than-perfect photos, use layers, and prepare images for the web and email. Use the organizer to locate, view, and catalog your images so you can file them once and find them later.
