  3. Photoshop: Camera RAW

    Prerequisite(s): "Digital Cameras 2" and /or "Photoshop Level 1."

    Ready to take your Digital SLR Photography to the next level? Unleash the power of RAW file technology to create stunning images. Get hands-on experience with all of the tools in Photoshop's digital darkroom, the RAW File Converter. Evaluate and adjust exposure, color balance, contrast, sharpness, perspective and a host of other modifications, all before the file is even opened. Learn how to establish an efficient workflow, including Batch Processing. And that's just the beginning! We will also delve into Photoshop's High Dynamic Range (HDR) Imaging capabilities with RAW files and you'll learn how to shoot and process multiple exposures of high contrast scenes, resulting in beautiful images containing a full range of colors and details. Homework assignments will be given and you'll get guided practice on your own photos in class.

    You must bring a digital camera that captures a RAW file format, tripod, and a USB thumb drive to class. The two optional books, "Real World Camera RAW with Adobe Photoshop CS5," ISBN 9780321713094 and "Practical HDRI," ISBN 9781933952635 are available at the WCC Bookstore.

  4. Primitive Rug Hooking 2

    Prerequisite(s): Primitive Rug Hooking 1 or equivalent knowledge.

    Continuing from where part 1 left off, learn more advanced techniques like: how to create patterns, color planning, problem solving and creative finishing techniques. Create a more advanced project to keep and bring your questions and projects for advice.

    Bring a pair of scissors and a rug hooking frame or quilting hoop that is at least 14" in diameter and 1" wide.

  5. Special Projects in Pottery

    Prerequisite(s): None.

    Enjoy a morning working in clay and make something exciting to take home. Take one or both of these creative offerings. Each class meets 2 times, once for the clay creation and the second for the glazing. Projects can be picked up 2 weeks after the last class.

    Section 1 Project: Design and create your very own ceramic mug. Using clay slabs and paper templates to form mugs with handles, you can add texture and pattern to the clay with stamps and other materials that will be provided. In the second class students will learn about glaze, choose colors and glaze their mugs. Finished pieces are dishwasher and food safe and will make a wonderful drinking vessel for yourself or a friend.
    Section 2 Project: Create a container for yourself or a friend to hold flowers all year round. Make vase forms using clay slabs. A variety of hand built shapes can be created with different shaped slabs, embellished with stamps and fabric texture and enhanced with handles. In the second class learn about glaze, choose colors and glaze the vase.

  6. The Visual Journal Image and Word

    Prerequisite(s): None.

    Designed to open new paths to communicate experiences and encourage self-expression in imagery and narration. Students work with sound, color, memory, poetry, music and mythology in focused exercises and projects that help expand creative thinking. With group discussion to assist in formulating a direction for each project, students will come away with a journal based on exercises and projects. 5 sessions.

    Prerequisite(s): None

    For those new to watercolor, become acquainted with some of the various washes, brush strokes and techniques of this versatile medium. Basic color theory, pigments and more will be covered. 10 sessions.
