    Prerequisite(s): "Computer Basics: Windows" or equivalent experience.

    Is Access the database of choice in your workplace? Learn the concepts, terminology, and data entry functions that will let you use existing Access databases efficiently. Next, design and create tables, enter and manipulate data in tables, and use queries to select and analyze information in a table. Create forms for viewing and inputting data, and create simple reports. Finally, you'll discover how to create relationships between tables.

    Do you have integrity in your relationships? Learn to establish relationships between tables and enforce referential integrity. Next, improve data integrity by setting properties, creating a lookup list, and creating indexes. Use select queries to create expressions and action queries to maintain your database. Enhance your forms with subforms and create reports that group and summarize data.

    Analyze the design of your database and create more advanced queries, such as crosstab queries. Add specialized controls to your forms and insert subreports within a master report. Increase ease of use through macros that automate your database and improve data entry. Develop a switchboard and set start-up options to facilitate user navigation.

  7. Computer Basics 2: Windows

    Prerequisite(s): "Computer Basics 1: Getting Started with Your Windows Computer" or equivalent experience.

    Windows is the electronic manager of your computer and you are the CEO. It's crucial for you to know what Windows is doing for you and how it works. Would you like to understand the Windows GUI (graphical user interface) better? What about all those programs and file types? How well are you working with files and folders — do you know where and how to find your "stuff". Home practice suggestions help you apply new skills on your home computer.

    Section 1 will focus on Windows 7. Windows 7 Computers are provided in class, but students are welcome to bring their own laptops with XP or Vista to Section 2 (Daytime). The optional reference book, "Easy Microsoft Windows," is available in XP, Vista and Windows 7 versions. Students are highly encouraged to purchase the version for the operating system they have at home, after the first class meeting.   8. Cottage Food Industry: Make Money Selling Your Home Made Foods A Class in the Permaculture Design Series

    Recently passed amendments to the Food Law of 2000 define a cottage food operation as one where a person produces or packages non-potentially hazardous food in a kitchen of that person's primary domestic residence. The law allows sales of allowable foods produced by a cottage food operation to homes, farm markets, roadside stands, municipal farmers markets, county fairs, celebrations, festivals and other events. Learn how to set up your own cottage based industry and how the concept relates to the Permaculture concept.
