  1. HTML/XHTML with CSS: Level 2

    Prerequisite(s): "HTML/XHTML: Level 1" or equivalent experience.

    Create webpages, coding HTML/XHTML by hand, as you move on to more advanced features of working with HTML/XHTML. You'll learn how to use tables, frames, forms, metadata, and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for basic web design. The class emphasizes compliance with Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) so your pages work with various browsers and comply with web standards.

    Prerequisite(s): "Computer Basics: Windows" or equivalent experience.

    Curious about Microsoft Office? What is the difference between MS Word, WordPad and Notepad? Maybe you'd like to try Excel for your household budgeting or create a fun PowerPoint to display photos in a slideshow? Microsoft Office comes with a simple to use picture library manager and image editor. Get started with short, structured projects that will introduce you to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Windows Picture Editor.   7. Photoshop: Camera RAW

    Prerequisite(s): "Digital Cameras 2" and /or "Photoshop Level 1."

    Ready to take your Digital SLR Photography to the next level? Unleash the power of RAW file technology to create stunning images. Get hands-on experience with all of the tools in Photoshop's digital darkroom, the RAW File Converter. Evaluate and adjust exposure, color balance, contrast, sharpness, perspective and a host of other modifications, all before the file is even opened. Learn how to establish an efficient workflow, including Batch Processing. And that's just the beginning! We will also delve into Photoshop's High Dynamic Range (HDR) Imaging capabilities with RAW files and you'll learn how to shoot and process multiple exposures of high contrast scenes, resulting in beautiful images containing a full range of colors and details. Homework assignments will be given and you'll get guided practice on your own photos in class.

    You must have a digital camera that captures a RAW file format and tripod. Bring a USB thumb drive to class. The two optional books, "Real World Camera RAW with Adobe Photoshop CS5," ISBN 9780321713094 and "Practical HDRI," ISBN 9781933952635 are available at the WCC Bookstore.

    Prerequisite(s): Ability to use software applications, email, and internet browser; adept at locating files on a computer.

    Do you want to create a podcast, but aren't sure where to begin? Are you already a podcaster, but want to do more than just record and distribute a message, lesson or story for others? Podcast U is an essential training that takes you through the hardware and software requirements. Become proficient in how to plan a podcast, record, edit, and post your files for download. Acquire valuable recording, editing, and publishing tips. Cut, copy, splice and mix sounds together. Change the speed or pitch of a recording. Export MP3s and create WAV or AIFF files suitable for burning to a CD and more! Podcasting is widely used in entertainment, education, and business. If you've ever wanted to produce your own radio show or create mini-lessons in a flash, give Podcasting a try.

    Bring a set of headphones or ear buds (standard mini-plug connector) to class. This class will use Windows Computers.

  9. Teaching Online: The 21st Century Classroom Online

    Prerequisite(s): Proficient in Blackboard, Moodle, or other Course/Learning Management System software.

    This class explores the theory and pedagogy behind successful e-learning and teaching. Through hands-on activities and case study assignments, you will learn how to manage your online, blended or face-to-face classrooms; efficiently use your time; and successfully recognize and avoid roadblocks that interfere with student learning. In this online six week class, only two synchronous online sessions are required. See the detailed class schedule under the "Faculty Professional Development Opportunity" section at www.wccnet.edu/blackboard.

    You must register online and complete a pre-class checklist at least one week before the class start date. Attendance at one of the class overview sessions is essential. You may participate in either the Thursday evening (June 7, 6:00-8:00 pm) or Friday morning (June 8, 9:30-11:30 am) session. These overview sessions are held in GM 230A or through web-conferencing. The majority of the class is conducted online, with activity and assignment deadlines paced to keep you engaged throughout the course. Students must also participate in a final session through web-conferencing (Thursday, July 19, 6:00-8:00 pm OR Friday, July 20, 9:30-11:30 am). Hardware and software requirements include: Full access to a computer (not iPad or other mobile device) with a high speed internet connection for streaming video and interactive multimedia; computer speakers, and occasional use of a headset with microphone. Sufficient mastery of Blackboard must be obtained prior to the class - check the training schedule posted at www.wccnet.edu/blackboard.

    Looking to create your own blog? Wordpress is an open-source content management system that allows you to create and manage a custom blog or website without complicated coding. Quickly create a blog for your personal hobby, social organization, or business. Free widgets give your blog advance functionality. Once your blog is up and running, you will be able to track your viewers and edit pages using a familiar word processing interface. Become a Wordpress pro and skip the time-consuming process of learning code.
