  1. CNA Test Review Workshop Practice Makes Perfect!

    Prerequisite(s): You must take, complete, and pass a state-approved nurse aide training program before registering for this review workshop.

    Don't miss this opportunity to sharpen your clinical skills before taking the Michigan Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation test. Practice the skills you most want to perfect, such as handwashing and aseptic technique, taking vital signs, mouth and denture care, bathing a patient, range of motion exercises, pivot transfer, catheter care, and more.

    Bring a photocopy of your state-approved nurse aide training completion document to show your instructor, bring your lunch, or feel free to visit campus food services for the half-hour lunch break. Wear a watch with a second hand.

    Prerequisite(s): "Computer Basics: Windows," "Computer Basics: Mac & iMac," or equivalent experience; ideas for integrating technology into your classroom, and a Google account.

    Google Tools, Evernote, shared calendars and life in the cloud: Keeping up with new Web 2.0 tools can be confusing. This workshop will help you evaluate and integrate these productivity tools into your daily routine. Take advantage of freeware that supports what you need to do, not make it more complicated.

  3. Mental Health First Aid Certification Basic First Aid Interventions for Common Mental Health Problems

    Do you know what to say to a student who is struggling with acute depression or anxiety? How do you safely approach a patient or client who is experiencing a psychological crisis? This new, evidence-based, interactive, two-day certification program can help you gain confidence and skills in providing a 5-step approach to help persons struggling with mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, substance use or eating disorders, PTSD, or crisis situations such as suicidal behaviors, panic attacks and psychosis. Nurses, social workers, educators, clergy, community volunteers, mental health advocates, family caregivers and members of the public will benefit by achieving this new certification applicable to all settings.

    Lorraine Chiappetta MSN, RN, CNE is a certified nurse educator, and a member of the professional nursing faculty at Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with over 30 years experience in the field of mental health. Michelle Rose-Armstrong MA, LLP, WCC faculty member, currently serves on many community mental health related Boards. As a Community Mental Health Specialist, she provided training and consultation services to individuals and many organizations in Washtenaw County. Both Michelle and Lorraine are certified Mental Health First Aid Trainers.

    Continental breakfast and sign-in begin at 8:30 am. There will be a 1 hour lunch break on your own. Feel free to bring a lunch or visit one of the local eateries. Please register by March 16. Registration on the day of the seminar (space permitting) is $185.
    This class qualifies for 12.00 Contact Hours for nurses. Approval valid through August 24, 2012. Assigned ONA #14,663. Other health professionals who attend will receive course completion certificates. For rules governing continuing education credit those participants should contact their respective regulatory board.
    This class qualifies for 12.00 Contact Hours approved by the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative.
    This class qualifies for 1.10 Continuing Education Units approved by the State of Michigan Board of Education.

    Webinar is short for Web-based seminar, a presentation, lecture, workshop or seminar that is transmitted over the Web. A key feature of a Webinar is its interactive elements — the ability to give, receive and discuss information. Find out how to deliver and host interactive web meetings and webinars. Explore options for online software available and the many tools for streamlining communication and engaging participants, such as the screen sharing, full-screen and whiteboard features.
