  1. Financial Planning for Unmarried Couples and Singles Strategies and Insights

    Unmarried couples and singles are not automatically protected by the same financial laws pertaining to married couples. Do you have strategies in place to protect your assets as an unmarried couple or as a single person? This course will provide insight for unmarried couples and singles into how to strategize for your financial future. Topics will include: identifying financial goals; investing; budgeting; retirement planning; funding education; income planning in retirement; and protecting assets, income, and quality of life. A key focus will be planning issues in the event of the death or disability of a loved one or partner.

    This class is designed for those who have started their family history research but are looking for some guidance. We will look at some of the lesser-used and harder to obtain records — both online and offline — as well as discuss research strategies to help track down elusive ancestors who seem to be hiding. Bring some information about the ancestors you are researching to the first class.

    Prerequisite(s): None.

    Have you ever had a paranormal experience? Many people have had one at some time or another in their lives. You know, that unexplained something. Join Beverly Fish, a psychic medium who has been investigating the spirit world since she became aware of the spirit person in her family home at the age of 10. Sharing tips on how to set up an investigation and the use of equipment to help give evidence of energy fields and EVPs, learn what to be aware of, when to call in an expert and what to avoid when "hunting" ghosts. 1 session.

  4. History of Architecture and Architects in Washtenaw County Cobblestone to Mid-Century Modern

    Study the influence of major architects and vernacular builders, home-grown and national, on the buildings we see today in our community. We'll look at specific local examples of the work of major architects such as Gordon Lloyd, Albert Kahn, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Through PowerPoint presentations we'll examine churches, university buildings, and private homes and look at styles ranging from cobblestone to Mid-Century Modern. Class will consist of four two-hour sessions.

    Art for art's sake was a major theme of the Italian Renaissance. Take yourself back in time to explore Italy in the Middle Ages and learn the context that shaped Renaissance art. You'll learn about various regions in Italy and their influences on the artists, painting, architecture, and sculpture of the period. Learn what role family patronage played during this time. View art works through slides and pictures. Open up your senses to the richness of this important time in art history. 5 sessions
