Medical Transcriptionist Certificate

If you plan to begin a new career as a member of the healthcare team, this could be the perfect fit for you! Demand for medical transcriptionists is strong--the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts an 11 percent growth in medical transcription jobs between 2008 and 2018. It is a career that is portable (moves with you if you relocate), allows for flexibility (both part time and full time jobs), and for many, the opportunity to work from home.

What does a medical transcriptionist or medical transcription editor do?

  • Medical Transcriptionists type (or transcribe) the dictations of doctor-patient interactions, creating the reports that are included in patients' medical records.
  • Medical Transcription Editors are specialized medical transcriptionists focused on correcting and editing the written reports generated by speech recognition software or overseas transcription services.

What does this program offer and include?

In this comprehensive program, accredited by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI), you are trained in both Transcription and Editing. It contains over 1300 authentic physician audio files containing a full spectrum of medical specialties and dictation styles for your practice. It is also competency based which means that you can bypass individual chapters and modules by testing out, if desired.

Included:

  • BenchMark KB 15-month subscription
  • Transcription Software
  • PC transcription foot pedal
  • AHDI associate membership
  • M*Modal Editing Software (the most commonly used speech recognitions software)
  • Electronic texts

The Medical Transcription Editor program includes access to three professional support teams:

All of these teams are committed to helping you graduate quickly, prepare for industry certification, and successfully move into the workforce.

You will receive a certificate upon successful completion from both WCC Lifelong Learning and Career Step, a leader in online allied health education and job training.
