  1. Group Crisis Intervention 14 Hour Certificate Course of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF)

    Examine the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum and learn to understand a wide range of crisis intervention services. Fundamentals of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) are outlined and participants leave with the knowledge and tools to provide several group crisis interventions, specifically demobilizations, defusing and the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). The need for appropriate follow-up services and referrals when necessary will also be discussed.

  2. Healthy Habits for Feminine Assets Bringing Breast Health to the Forefront

    Proactive habits like loving thoughts, lymph drainage, and better lifestyle and food choices can make a difference in the health of your breasts. The purpose of this program is to provide participants with an understanding of how to holistically create breast health, instead of chasing a disease process. All who seek preventive health & self-care are encouraged to attend for the benefit of themselves and/or their clients/patients. Content includes discussion about breast development and anatomy; nutritional, lifestyle and bra choices; thermography and much more. With time to practice lymph drainage and thought reframing, you'll leave feeling more empowered about your breasts' health.
    Cathy Holland BS, RN, IBCLC, FACCE, LCCE, part-time faculty, is a holistic women's health nurse, lactation consultant and certified childbirth educator in private practice. She is a proponent of energy work and practices that promote holistic health.

    Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign-in. Bring a sack lunch, snacks will be provided. To receive a certificate of attendance, participants must attend the entire event and complete an evaluation form.

  6. Mental Health First Aid Certification Basic First Aid Interventions for Common Mental Health Problems

    Do you know what to say to a student who is struggling with acute depression or anxiety? How do you safely approach a patient or client who is experiencing a psychological crisis? This new, evidence-based, interactive, two-day certification program can help you gain confidence and skills in providing a 5-step approach to help persons struggling with mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, substance use or eating disorders, PTSD, or crisis situations such as suicidal behaviors, panic attacks and psychosis. Nurses, social workers, educators, clergy, community volunteers, mental health advocates, family caregivers and members of the public will benefit by achieving this new certification applicable to all settings.

    Lorraine Chiappetta MSN, RN, CNE is a certified nurse educator, and a member of the professional nursing faculty at Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with over 30 years experience in the field of mental health. Michelle Rose-Armstrong MA, LLP, WCC faculty member, currently serves on many community mental health related Boards. As a Community Mental Health Specialist, she provided training and consultation services to individuals and many organizations in Washtenaw County. Both Michelle and Lorraine are certified Mental Health First Aid Trainers.

    Continental breakfast and sign-in begin at 8:30 am. There will be a 1 hour lunch break on your own. Feel free to bring a lunch or visit one of the local eateries. Please register by March 16. Registration on the day of the seminar (space permitting) is $185.
    This class qualifies for 12.00 Contact Hours for nurses. Approval valid through August 24, 2012. Assigned ONA #14,663. Other health professionals who attend will receive course completion certificates. For rules governing continuing education credit those participants should contact their respective regulatory board.

  9. Neuropsychology of Chronic Pain and Addiction

    Examine the elements of chronic pain and differentiate between dependence, tolerance, and addiction in relation to the use of substances. The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM), the American Pain Society (APS), and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) consensus statement distinguishing addiction from physical dependence and tolerance is explained. Explore and analyze the neuropsychology of pain and specifically chronic pain and learn about opiates including delivery routes, duration of action, and considerations for their use. Assessment tools are identified for opiate maintenance and substance abuse monitoring. A case study of a former alcoholic with chronic pain is presented. Participants will work in small groups to discuss, assess, and develop treatment recommendations.

  10. OCD & Mood Disorders

    Obsessive compulsive disorder is the fourth most common mental disorder, and is diagnosed nearly as often as asthma and diabetes. In the U.S. one in 50 adults has some form of OCD. Mood disorders, most commonly depression or bipolar disorder, are sometimes closely related to OCD. Learn what OCD actually is, the common features that characterize it, and evidence of the co-morbidity and relatedness to mood disorders. Examine types of treatments and their effectiveness, along with the challenges that go along with each treatment type. Finally, examine factors that may either confound or assist therapists as they recognize, evaluate, and help their patients through this common, but complex, experience.
