  3. Photoshop: Camera RAW

    Prerequisite(s): "Digital Cameras 2" and /or "Photoshop Level 1."

    Ready to take your Digital SLR Photography to the next level? Unleash the power of RAW file technology to create stunning images. Get hands-on experience with all of the tools in Photoshop's digital darkroom, the RAW File Converter. Evaluate and adjust exposure, color balance, contrast, sharpness, perspective and a host of other modifications, all before the file is even opened. Learn how to establish an efficient workflow, including Batch Processing. And that's just the beginning! We will also delve into Photoshop's High Dynamic Range (HDR) Imaging capabilities with RAW files and you'll learn how to shoot and process multiple exposures of high contrast scenes, resulting in beautiful images containing a full range of colors and details. Homework assignments will be given and you'll get guided practice on your own photos in class.

    You must have a digital camera that captures a RAW file format and tripod. Bring a USB thumb drive to class. The two optional books, "Real World Camera RAW with Adobe Photoshop CS5," ISBN 9780321713094 and "Practical HDRI," ISBN 9781933952635 are available at the WCC Bookstore.

  4. Podcast U

    Prerequisite(s): Ability to use software applications, email, and internet browser; adept at locating files on a computer.

    Do you want to create a podcast, but aren't sure where to begin? Are you already a podcaster, but want to do more than just record and distribute a message, lesson or story for others? Podcast U is an essential training that takes you through the hardware and software requirements. Become proficient in how to plan a podcast, record, edit, and post your files for download. Acquire valuable recording, editing, and publishing tips. Cut, copy, splice and mix sounds together. Change the speed or pitch of a recording. Export MP3s and create WAV or AIFF files suitable for burning to a CD and more! Podcasting is widely used in entertainment, education, and business. If you've ever wanted to produce your own radio show or create mini-lessons in a flash, give Podcasting a try.

    Bring a set of headphones or ear buds (standard mini-plug connector) to class. This class will use Windows Computers.

  5. RN Refresher Course Online Increase your confidence!!

    Prerequisite(s): Nursing degree, RN License (current, expired or attempted) and comfortable using a computer. Prior to registering (online registration only) for this course, please contact Lifelong Learning at 734-677-5085 or apoppe@wccnet.edu to request an application. A mandatory orientation where you will receive your eBook access code, software and workbook is scheduled for June 16, 2-4 pm at WCC in the Morris Lawrence Building computer lab room 126.

    Improve confidence, critical thinking and understanding of the most commonly encountered nursing management challenges of the adult patient in the medical-surgical setting. Accessible online, 24/7, the content includes a review of pathophysiology, patient assessment including a focused approach, the most up-to date medical-surgical collaborative care and nursing management, including prioritization, delegation, patient safety and evidence-based practice. Case studies are implemented for clinical decision-making exercises. Audio and animated visual clips, slides, and summaries of the key points complement the e-book and a variety of learning styles.
    A companion virtual hospital is where you'll work with multiple complex patients collecting assessment data, completing documentation, and safe medication administration. Optional open labs on the WCC campus are offered where you can practice skills such as trach suctioning, Foley catheter placement, etc. Enjoy a lab enhanced, self-paced, online learning experience while increasing your confidence!

    Register online. The eBook works best with Internet Explorer or Foxfire, with Windows Vista, XP, 2000 or Mac OSX (up to 10.6.1). You will need to download and install (available at no charge) Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash & Shockwave Players and Apple QuickTime onto your computer, if they are not already installed. You will spend approximately twenty hours per week for twelve to sixteen weeks in the online learning environment starting on June 16. Successful completion is measured by achievement of 75% or higher on the tests and participation in the discussion board.

  6. ServSafe Certification

    In this class students will learn the causes of foodborne illness and prevention. You will learn the food safety systems, the facilities cleaning and sanitizing, food safety regulations and employee training. You will take the ServSafe? certification test at the end of the day. Students passing the exam will receive a certificate as a ServSafe? Food Protection Manager.

    You must purchase the required text new before the class. "ServSafe Essentials 5th Edition revised" with exam answer sheet. The book contains the prepaid answer sheet.
    ISBN 978-1-58280-271-8. The book is available in the WCC bookstore. It is recommended that the student read through the book before the class. A photo ID is required to take the certification test.

  7. Spirituality and Older Adults Exploring the Role of Spirituality in the Aging Process

    Explore the role of spirituality in the overall aging process by focusing on the concept of spirituality in our everyday lives, including its relationship to the aging process. Learn why it is important for social workers working with older adults to become aware of this important dynamic. Many people, including social workers, use the terms spirituality and religion interchangeably. Learn the distinctions between these two concepts and examine the spiritual traditions and customs of several well-known belief systems. Develop a better understanding of the role of the social worker in the relationship of spirituality and aging in this multimedia course which includes individual & partnered/group exercises & viewing of pertinent movie clips.
