WCC Students Win Big at National Championships
WCC students in skilled trades programs placed first in three categories and second in three others at the national SkillsUSA Championships this summer in Kansas City, Mo.
WCC students who won gold medals include:
- Robert Feldkamp, automotive refinishing
- Alex Pazkowski, welding—overall
- Tarrah DeBord, Scott Hamway, and Ashley Webel, welding and fabrication team
Silver medal winners from WCC include:
- Andrew Smith, carpentry
- Marcus Malnar, collision repair
- Glenn Steward, mobile electronics installation
Other WCC competitors include:
- Jack Wynn, fifth in motorcycle technology
- Patrick Blair, 10th in automotive services
Pazkowski qualifies to compete in the American Welding Society Weld-Off in Atlanta this November. The top three winners in the Weld-Off will advance to the International Pre-Trial competition next year, and the first-place winner there will move on to compete in the WorldSkills Competition in London.
Last year, WCC welding student Joe Young won the International Pre-Trial competition and ultimately won a silver medal at the WorldSkills Competition in Calgary, Alberta.
WCC students are always among the top competitors at the national SkillsUSA Championships. Last year, they won four gold medals and one silver medal.
