Public Forums Set for WCC Presidential Candidates

The three finalists to replace retiring WCC President Larry Whitworth will answer questions at upcoming forums that are open to the public as well as the administration, faculty, staff, and students of WCC.

The forum dates and candidate who will appear include:

  • Thursday, March 10, 3:00pm: Dr. Irene Kovala, vice president for academic and student affairs at Minneapolis Technical and Community College in Minneapolis, Minn.
  • Friday, March 11, 3:00pm: Dr. Vicki Martin, executive vice president and provost of Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, Wis.
  • Monday, March 14, 2:00pm: Dr. Donald Doucette, senior vice president and provost of Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, Ind.

At each forum, the candidate will be briefly introduced and then answer questions from the public. All of the forums will be held at WCC’s Towsley Auditorium. Each person who attends will receive a comment form, which will be collected and given to the WCC Board of Trustees for review.

The Board of Trustees selected the three finalists after an extensive national search. Following is more information about the candidates.

Dr. Donald Doucette

Prior to his position at Ivy Tech, Dr. Doucette served as vice chancellor for education and technology at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Mo. He holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Arizona State University, a Master of Arts in English from Arizona State, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Cornell University.

Dr. Irene Kovala

Before her assignment at Minneapolis Technical and Community College, Dr. Kovala was vice president of academic affairs at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines and Skokie, Ill. She has an Ed.D. in Continuing Education from Northern Illinois University, a Master of Education from Colorado State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Vicki Martin

Dr. Martin served as campus vice president and director of strategic planning at the Oak Creek campus of Milwaukee Area Technical College before being named executive vice president and provost of the college. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Wisconsin, a Master of Science in Business Management from Cardinal Stritch University, a Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance from the University of North Dakota, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin.
