WCC Journalists Win 29 Awards in State Contest

Journalists for WCC’s student newspaper, The Washtenaw Voice, recently received 29 awards in the annual Michigan Press Association Best Collegiate Newspaper Contest. The honors included the General Excellence Award for best overall student newspaper and first place for online newspaper.

The Voice staff took first place in 15 of the 21 contest categories for issues published during the 2010-11 academic year. The awards were announced Sept. 30. WCC winners include:

  • Quinn Davis: First, news story, column/review; second, editorial; third, video production or online audio slide show production
  • Matt Durr: First, news story, feature story; third, multimedia reporting
  • Nicole Bednarski: First, investigative reporting; third, news story
  • Jared Angle: First, feature photo, news photo
  • Josh Chamberlain: First, in-house ad
  • Brian Steinberg: First, video production or online audio slide show production
  • Chris Ozminski: First, video production or online audio slide show production; second, multimedia reporting
  • Frances Ross: First, original cartoon, editorial or entertainment
  • Kate Bizer: First, news page design, black and white ad, special advertising section; third, feature page design, in-house ad
  • Gino Detone: First, spot/full color display ad
  • Ben Solis: Second, feature story, multimedia reporting; third, column/review
  • Eric Hill: Second and third, video production or online audio slide show production
  • Rachelle Malaney: Second, spot/full color display ad
  • Tiffany Goodman: Third, original cartoon, editorial or entertainment
  • Robert Conradi: Third, investigative reporting
  • Jocelyn Gotlib: Third, feature photo
