New WCC Parking Structure Opens January 9
WCC students, employees, and guests have waited patiently this year for the opening of the College’s new parking structure. The wait ends January 9, 2012.
That’s when the new four-level, 473-space enclosed facility opens east of the Crane Liberal Arts and Science building. When it does, the only access to it will be from the College’s Clark Road entrance.
Access the Structure From Lot 7
Drivers entering campus from Clark Road should continue along the east side of Lot 7 until they reach the structure’s access drive. “Eventually, a second access drive to the structure will be opened off of Lot 1 by the Morris Lawrence building,” said Damon Flowers, associate vice president of Facilities Development and Operations. “That should happen in late spring of 2012.”
Weather has forced a delay in the opening of 56 outdoor slots adjacent to the south side of the structure. They should be available sometime in late spring.
Security Moves In, Too
The Campus Safety & Security department also is relocating from the west side of campus to new offices within the structure. This brings safety and security operations much closer to the center of campus.
“Besides our highly visible presence, cameras have been placed on all structure levels. And we will monitor them 24/7,” said Jacques Desrosiers, Campus Safety & Security director. “And if ever needed, there are emergency phones at the stairway/elevator areas of each level that connect directly to Campus Safety.”
The multi-level parking structure has several nice features. They include:
- Two elevators and stairways for all levels
- A covered walkway to the Crane Liberal Arts and Science
building for easy access to central campus
- Heat and lights connected to motion sensors to manage
- Signs that tell drivers when the lot is full
