WCC’s PTK Students Urge Others to Complete Their Goals
WCC’s Beta Gamma Alpha chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is urging fellow students at the College to finish what they start. On Tuesday, March 27, from 11:00am to 4:00pm, PTK members will be on the second floor of the Student Center building gathering signatures from students who pledge to complete their college certificate or degree.
“The student officers of the Beta Gamma Alpha chapter will be working with College administration and faculty to provide eight commitment stations. They will offer information on College resources, benefits of completion, and more,” said Nedkeysha Lewis, chapter president.
According to Lewis, students will have the opportunity to participate in a YouTube video project by pledging to a friend, family member, or loved one that they will complete a degree or program at WCC.
This is the second year the College’s PTK students have sponsored the event. Peter Leshkevich, director of Student Development and Activities, said that last year 50 students and 15 staff and faculty members participated. This year they hope to double the number of students taking the pledge.
President Obama has called for community colleges to produce an additional 5 million degrees and certificates in the next 10 years, part of his goal to restore the United States as the world’s leader in college graduates.
