Do Something For Someone Else: Become a WCC Volunteer

It’s hard to determine the value of a helping hand. For the recipients of bone marrow donations, heart treatments, and cancer services, that value is priceless.

This spring, WCC is asking students and staff to help raise awareness—and dollars—through special campus events in April, May, and June.

The Student Development and Activities office is coordinating WCC’s participation in three events. Each provides an opportunity to honor a friend or loved one who has been touched by the good work of the organization. For more information about the events, visit the links listed, stop by Student Development and Activities in SC 112, or call 734-973-3500.

Blood Drive/Bone Marrow Registration/Organ Donation Awareness

  • April 11 and 12
  • 9:30am-4:30pm, Morris Lawrence building, Room 101

Volunteers are needed to assist with registration and distributing materials regarding bone marrow and organ donations. And donors are needed to give the gift of life—their blood—during the WCC spring Red Cross Blood Drive. To volunteer for the bone marrow/blood drive, send an email to rbarsch@wccnet.edu. To donate blood, register online and use the sponsor code WCC 13.

Washtenaw County Heart Walk

  • May 18 and 19
  • Friday: 10:00am-2:00pm
  • Saturday: 8:15am-noon, WCC campus

Volunteers and walkers are needed. Volunteer duties include:

  • Route set up (Friday)
  • Check-in on walk day
  • Refreshment tent staffing
  • Walk day route support
  • Kid’s zone staffing
  • Stage help

You can volunteer online. You also can sign up online to be a member of the WCC Heart Walk team.

Relay for Life: American Cancer Society

  • June 23-24
  • 10:00am-10:00am, WCC campus

Volunteers are needed to take turns walking to raise money for cancer research and services. At night the route is lit with luminaries that attest silently to the lives lost and the lives winning the battle against this devastating illness. You can volunteer or support a volunteer online.

In October, WCC will host the Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk. For more information about that event, contact Student Development and Activities at 734-973-3500.
