WCC Nursing Student Awarded Red Cross Scholarship
WCC nursing student Kristopher L. Thompson has been awarded a 2012 Jane Delano Student Nurse Scholarship by the American Red Cross. He is one of three students nationwide and the only community college student to receive the honor.
The $3,000 scholarship was established to promote nursing as a career and to encourage the involvement of nurses in the Red Cross. In addition to providing many volunteer hours, Thompson has served as First Aid Support Team coordinator for the Washtenaw-Lenawee Chapter. According to the Red Cross, the program has grown significantly in volunteers, events, and revenue under his direction.
“The American Red Cross has given me the chance to be a part of extraordinary efforts every day of my life,” said Thompson. “I am eternally grateful for the opportunities I have had to help, experience, learn, and grow; and am now excited to become a nurse and use these experiences to continue to help others.”
Thompson joined the organization as a Service to Armed Forces volunteer and later assisted at several local and national disasters.
