New Exhibit Features Emerging Artists
WCC’s Gallery One highlights emerging artists in a new exhibit series that runs Sept. 6 through Oct. 19.
The series begins with painter Benjamin Cowan and installation/performance artist Reed Esslinger. While both are concerned with issues involving place and an individual’s relationship to his or her surroundings, their media choices lead to far different visual results.
Cowan attended Washtenaw Technical Middle College. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and in Italy before receiving his MFA from Indiana University. Esslinger received her MFA from the University of Michigan School of Art and Design. She has been selected to show at the International Sculpture Center Conference in Chicago this October.
Esslinger will perform in the gallery on Sept. 6 at 12:45pm, Sept. 27 at 1:00pm, and Oct. 10 at 5:00pm.
A reception for both artists will be held at the gallery on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. An artist talk follows from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
Gallery One is located on the first floor of the WCC Student Center building. Its hours are Monday and Tuesday from 10:00am to 6:00pm, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am to 8:00pm, and Friday from 10:00am to noon.
The exhibit and artist appearances are free and open to the public. For more information, call 734-477-8512.
