WCC Journalists Win Big in State Contest
WCC student journalists won 23 awards in the annual Michigan Press Association 2012 College Newspaper Contest. Community colleges and selected four-year institutions comprised the division in which they were judged.
First-place awards went to:
- Jared Angle, investigative reporting
- Bob Conradi, news photo
- Ikram Fatah, online newspaper
- Staff, special section
Students who won multiple awards include:
- Adrian Hedden: Second place, news story and news photo
- Matt Durr: Second place, sports column; third place, editorial writing
- Anne Duffy: Second place, feature writing; honorable mention, investigative story
- Josh Chamberlain: Two third-place awards, design
According to The Washtenaw Voice, WCC students dominated the investigative reporting category, winning first, third, and honorable mention, as well as the news photo category, winning first, second, and honorable mention. Overall, 15 student journalists won individual awards.
