Two WCC students chosen for PTK All-Michigan Academic Team

  • Kedishia Grant
  • Leland Dawson

WCC students Kedishia Grant and Leland Dawson have been selected for the Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team. Selection was based on outstanding academic performance and service to the College and community.

“It was an honor to be in Lansing with Kedishia and Lee when they received their medals,” said WCC Board Chair Anne Williams. “They have put tremendous effort towards achieving their accomplishments and deserve this recognition. It is not surprising that they were selected for this recognition by Phi Theta Kappa to represent WCC on the All-Michigan Academic Team, because they truly lead by example.”

“We are very proud that Kedishia and Lee were recognized by PTK for their work in the classroom and the community,” said WCC President Rose B. Bellanca. “Kedishia has been on the dean’s high honors list since she started at the College. Lee took time out to serve our country as a Marine before he enrolled at WCC. He coordinated our successful Toy-for-Tots drive this past December.”

Grant was born and raised in Jamaica. She works as an office assistant in the WCC Student Resource and Women’s Center, where she helps support students struggling to balance work, school, and family. She graduates this May from WCC with two associate degrees: liberal arts transfer and business. She hopes to pursue economics at the University of Michigan.

Dawson is president of the WCC Student Veterans Club and works as an admissions clerk for the WCC Veterans Center. He graduates this May with an associate degree in liberal arts transfer.

Sixty-five students were chosen from two-year institutions across the state. They were honored at a luncheon attended by Michigan senators and Dr. Rod Risley, CEO of Phi Theta Kappa.
