WCC programs align with top job opportunities

WCC is preparing graduates for jobs in top growth areas. The College has seen an increased demand for skilled workers and is responding with programs.

“Our number one priority is to make sure that our degree and certificate programs are carefully aligned to educate talented individuals for today’s jobs, especially in industries that are reestablishing their foothold in our community and in our region,” said Dr. Rose B. Bellanca, WCC president. “Our students are taking their new skills directly to the workplace.”

The employment fields expected to grow significantly now through 2015 in Washtenaw County are:

  • Construction
  • Employment services
  • Financial services
  • Nursing and residential care
  • Skilled manufacturing
  • State government
  • Transportation and warehousing
  • Wholesale trade

These growth areas were highlighted in a report published recently by University of Michigan economists George Fulton and Don Grimes. The list, which was compiled using data from the 2013-2015 Washtenaw County Economic Outlook, takes into account total new jobs, rate of job growth, and the job category’s average wages.
