WCC increases scholarships for high school seniors

WCC is offering 50 new scholarships worth $3,000 each to seniors from any high school to attend WCC after they graduate.

“Reducing the financial barriers to college is one of our top priorities at Washtenaw Community College,” said Rose B. Bellanca, WCC president. “These new scholarships enable us to help more and more families finance the first two years of higher education for their sons and daughters. And I will make every effort to increase that number in the years ahead.”

The new High School Excellence Scholarship is awarded for excellence in any area of a student’s life. For example, students may excel in their classes, in school or community activities, at playing a sport, at being an artist, at helping their family, or at overcoming obstacles to achieving their dreams.

Recipients will receive $1,500 for both the fall and winter semesters. They must enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours and make progress on their academic course of study. The application deadline for the new High School Excellence Scholarship is Aug. 1.

In addition to the new awards, WCC offers a variety of other scholarship opportunities to high school seniors and current WCC students. More information is available on WCC’s scholarships website.
