Whereas, As a community, we acknowledge that registered apprenticeships have played an important role throughout our nation’s history, providing a pathway to American middle-class success; and

Whereas, WCC has 109 active apprenticeships with 25 companies across the region, working in partnership with the Department of Labor, the Workforce Intelligence Network and Michigan Works! to prepare a highly skilled workforce to meet the talent needs of employers; and

Whereas, WCC hosts annual instructor training for three international trades unions – the United Association, the Ironworkers and the Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons International Association – training those union members who lead their respective apprenticeship programs; and

Whereas, WCC established UA University, giving UA members the opportunity to earn certificates and degrees; developed a pre-apprenticeship program for Ironworkers; and provides the educational component of the apprenticeship program for the Sprinkler Fitters of UA Local 669.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan, do hereby recognize Washtenaw Community College for its Registered Apprenticeship Programs in celebration of 2018 National Apprenticeship Week.
