WCC finalists for video awards include project from introductory class

The Foundations in Digital Video I class at Washtenaw Community College is designed to introduce students to “the basics of video production and editing.” Those exact words appear in the first sentence of the VID 105 course description.

One project created in that class this year has dramatically surpassed those expectations.

500+ community members enjoy Free College Day at WCC

Pamela Lewis and her 9-year-old daughter were running late to their last of three Free College Day classes, but Evanna was fully captivated by what was in front of her on the first floor of the Crane Liberal Arts and Science Building.

“She loves rocks,” Pamela said with a laugh. “My phone is going to be full.”

Evanna was finding specimens that particularly interested her in the Morris/Croake Mineral Collection.

Students get real-world lessons from Professionals in the Classroom

Students at Washtenaw Community College got a glimpse at how their classwork applies to the real world during the Professionals in the Classroom program on April 3-4.

“Our students have the opportunity to see real world, living, breathing examples of the course content and make connections in a deep, meaningful way,” Communications instructor Claire Sparklin said of the fourth annual event.

WCC Seminar Looks at In-Demand Jobs Feb. 18

Although Michigan is losing jobs at an alarming rate, some industries are hiring—and paying good wages. Find out about them at the “Highway to High Paying Jobs Seminar” at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the Morris Lawrence building at Washtenaw Community College. A light luncheon at 11:30am will precede the event, which is free and open to the public.

Seminar at WCC Focuses on Helping Area Businesses Grow

“Helping Employers Thrive & Grow,” a seminar aimed at connecting employers with local support services and resources that can help them in a tough economy, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Towsley Auditorium in Washtenaw Community College’s Morris Lawrence building. There’s no charge for the seminar, which runs from 8:00am to 1:00pm, but employers are asked to register by Feb. 12.

WCC Hosts Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Reads with Author Timothy Ferris

Timothy Ferris, the author of “Seeing in the Dark: How Amateur Astronomers are Discovering the Wonders of the Universe,” will discuss his book Thursday, Jan. 29, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm in Towsley Auditorium, which is located in the Morris Lawrence building at Washtenaw Community College. His talk is part of the sixth annual Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Reads program.
