Coaching an entrepreneur through the gauntlet of starting or growing a small business is a daunting task. A good coach will ask a lot of tough questions: Is enough financing secured? Is the business plan sound? Does the product match customers’ needs? Will the owner put in the hours necessary to make the business successful? The questions are endless and the answers are critical when seeking advice from the professionals at the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center at WCC.

WCC to Host Iron Worker Training

This July, WCC’s campus will be home to approximately 600 instructors from the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers. WCC has been home to summer instructor training for the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters for 20 years, and it will also host some classes for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

WCC Culinary Grad is a Lion of a Chef

Joe Nader, 39, stands over an empty Ford Field wearing his chef’s coat and a toque, or chef’s hat. It’s quiet now, but once his day gets going he’ll oversee the work of about 100 employees. And during football season, an average of nearly 50,000 people per game will look to him for tasty and interesting food.

WCC Art Gallery Showcases Student Designs

WCC shines the spotlight on commercial art May 3-28 when the vision and creativity of WCC graphic design students goes on display in the College’s Gallery One. An artist reception will be held Wednesday, May 12, at 5:30pm in the Gallery, which is located on the first floor of the Student Center building.

WCC Students Take Top Honors in State Competition

WCC students swept the awards in numerous categories at the state SkillsUSA competition in Lansing on April 16-18. All first-place winners will represent Michigan at the national competition in June in Kansas City. WCC’s winners include:

Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day at WCC

This year, the annual Ann Arbor Earth Day celebration combines forces with WCC’s own Earth Day for a festival that combines education, entertainment, and fun in a location close to both Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. On Sunday, April 25, from noon to 4:00pm the Ann Arbor Area Earth Day Festival will fill WCC’s Morris Lawrence building and the surrounding campus green with Earth-focused exhibits and activities.

Job Opportunities Showcased at WCC Event March 25

Despite the news about companies downsizing, there are still lots of employment opportunities for Washtenaw County residents. On Thursday, March 25, WCC brings employers and job seekers together to discuss job opportunities at its 14th Annual Spring Job Fair and Nonprofit Showcase.
