Meeting state metrics increases WCC’s funding

For the past two years, WCC has received the highest percentage increase of all 28 Michigan community colleges in budget dollars from the state. In the 2015-2016 budget the state has allocated a 3.7 percent increase in WCC’s funding, meaning an additional $466,500. In the 2014- 2015 budget the state allocated a 2.3 percent increase in WCC’s funding.

WCC online enrollment continues to climb

At Washtenaw Community College, more students are choosing to take their classes online. In fact, Distance Learning at the college has grown 11 percent over the past three years.

Connecting students to campus life, the community and careers

Starting in Sept. 2015, Washtenaw Community College students will have more ways to connect real-world experiences to their academic curriculum.

Students sink their teeth into Dental Assisting program

Under the guidance of Washtenaw Community College faculty members Kathleen Weber, Kristina Sprague and Jodi Neuman, students in the college’s Dental Assisting program learn a broad array of skills to become certified dental assistants. The program also offers the chance to earn a certificate and an Associate in Applied Science degree.

Meet Betsy Petoskey, New WCC Foundation Chair

Newly elected Foundation Board Chair Betsy Petoskey is looking forward to the new school year. She will play a key role in leading the Washtenaw Community College Foundation to raise money for tuition assistance and support services such as childcare and transportation.

WCC Foundation raises $8M

The Washtenaw Community College Foundation has raised over $8 million over the past 18 months in cash gifts and pledges to support students at Washtenaw Community College. This represents the largest amount of funds ever raised in a collective effort at the college.

WCC’s charter high school among top ten in US

Nestled within the campus of Washtenaw Community College is Washtenaw Technical Middle College, a charter high school that provides unique learning opportunities and allows students to earn both a high school diploma and a college associate’s degree or technical certificate upon graduation.

WCC and Dr. Bellanca welcome students

Welcome Day featured student clubs, local businesses and restaurants, raffles, games, a photo booth, free food and goodies in Community Park on Sept. 9. Hundreds of students attended and got better acquainted with the college. President Dr. Rose Bellanca also joined in on the fun.

Free College Day draws hundreds of community members

Close to 400 people went back to school at Free College Day on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Jamie Buhr is more than the chair-elect of the Washtenaw Community College Foundation. He’s also one of the college’s biggest cheerleaders.
