WCC Building Open House Set for Oct. 23
The public is invited to attend an open house at WCC to celebrate the renovations and renaming of the College’s Occupational Education building on Sunday, Oct. 23. That afternoon it will be renamed the Larry L. Whitworth Occupational Education building in honor of WCC’s recently retired president.
William Clay Ford Jr. Featured Speaker at Oct. 17 Event at WCC
William Clay Ford, Jr., executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, will address members of the Washtenaw Economic Club during the organization’s October luncheon on Monday, Oct. 17 at WCC.
WCC Creates Mobile App for Phones, Tablets
A new app make it easier for WCC students, employees, and others to access the College’s website with mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet computers.
WCC Job Fair Features Tech Careers Oct. 18
Approximately 25 companies in technology-related businesses will be on hand at the Fall Technology Job Fair sponsored by WCC’s Career Planning and Employment Services department. The fair takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 10:00am to 2:00pm in the Morris Lawrence building. It’s free to all WCC students, alumni, and community members.
From Classroom to Boardroom
Community colleges in southeast Michigan are familiar places for WCC’s new president, Dr. Rose B. Bellanca. For six years she guided St. Clair County Community College as president. Prior to that, she held a succession of upper-level administrative positions at Macomb Community College.
WCC Students Win Big at 2011 National Championships
WCC students in skilled trades programs placed first in two categories and second and third in two more at the national SkillsUSA Championships this summer in Kansas City, Mo.
WCC Looks Back on Whitworth’s Legacy
WCC faculty and staff worked throughout the 2010-2011 academic year knowing that it would be the last one for retiring President Larry Whitworth. Whitworth will say that faculty members are the ones responsible for student achievement—that it was his job to get passionate and talented people engaged in teaching and to provide them with the tools to make that happen. And while that is a significant part of any president’s job, Whitworth’s 13-year tenure at WCC is far more noteworthy.

Board Selects Dr. Rose Bellanca as Next WCC President
The WCC Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Rose B. Bellanca, Florida campus provost and chief operating officer for Northwood University, as the next president of WCC. A verbal offer has been made and is contingent on potential site visits and the negotiation of an acceptable contract. She is expected to begin Sept. 1, 2011.
