WCC students medal in state competition

WCC students majoring in automotive, welding, and culinary arts returned to campus victorious from the SkillsUSA state competition in April.

WCC names Michael Finney honorary degree recipient

The WCC Board of Trustees has selected Michael Finney, president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, to receive the College’s highest honor, the 2013 Honorary Associate Degree in Community Service. The award will be given during commencement on Saturday, May 18, at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center.

WCC increases scholarships for high school seniors

WCC is offering 50 new scholarships worth $3,000 each to seniors from any high school to attend WCC after they graduate.

WCC receives $25,000 DTE Energy Foundation grant

WCC has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the DTE Energy Foundation to help fund its Pre-College STEM initiative for two years.

Two WCC students awarded Jack Kent Cooke scholarships

Two WCC students are among the 73 selected nationwide for a 2013 Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. WCC President Rose B. Bellanca delivered the good news personally to Susannah Spence and Fatouma Abdoulaye.

WCC president participates in Governor’s Education Summit

Dr. Rose B. Bellanca, president of WCC, was an invited participant as a key education leader and panelist for the Governor’s Education Summit on April 22 at Michigan State University. The Summit focused on collaboration between the education and business communities, and included discussions on the strengths of education in Michigan and the role that education will play in Michigan’s future economy. This was the second in a two-part summit series.

Two WCC students chosen for PTK All-Michigan Academic Team

WCC students Kedishia Grant and Leland Dawson have been selected for the Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team. Selection was based on outstanding academic performance and service to the College and community.

WCC student heads to Washington, D.C.

When former U.S. Marine and WCC student Leland Dawson served in Japan and Iraq, he carried out military policies handed down from Congress and the White House. This summer, he will gain insight into how those and other policies are shaped when he interns for the chairman of the Armed Services Committee, U.S. Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan.

Regional Science Fair Returns to WCC March 8-9

For the 25th consecutive year, the Southeastern Michigan Science Fair returns to WCC March 8 and 9. Joining WCC as cosponsor is the University of Michigan. The fair receives support from Toyota and a donation from the University of Michigan Graduate Student Council.

Pazkowski Wins US Welding Title

WCC welding student Alex Pazkowski is the number one student welder in the nation. On Feb. 23 he won the American Welding Society/SkillsUSA Team USA Finals welding competition in Daytona Beach, Fla.
