MLK Day Activities Take Place at WCC Jan. 17
Although WCC will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, it will sponsor several activities the next day to honor the late civil rights leader.
WCC Car Floors Them at 2011 SEMA Showcase
Showing a car at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas, rebuilt from the frame up by WCC students and faculty, is beyond compare. Having that car singled out by Motor Trend magazine as one of the “sweetest cars” there is beyond words.
WCC Named One of the Best Places to Work
WCC ranked 14th among 25 of the largest Michigan-based companies surveyed by the Detroit Free Press for its 2011 Top Workplaces recognition program.
Scholarships Target WCC Students
If you need money for college, many scholarships are aimed at WCC students. There’s money available whether you’re a current WCC student or a high school student planning to attend the College.
WCC Building Open House Set for Oct. 23
The public is invited to attend an open house at WCC to celebrate the renovations and renaming of the College’s Occupational Education building on Sunday, Oct. 23. That afternoon it will be renamed the Larry L. Whitworth Occupational Education building in honor of WCC’s recently retired president.
WCC Journalists Win 29 Awards in State Contest
Journalists for WCC’s student newspaper, The Washtenaw Voice, recently received 29 awards in the annual Michigan Press Association Best Collegiate Newspaper Contest. The honors included the General Excellence Award for best overall student newspaper and first place for online newspaper.
WCC Photo Student Takes Top Honor In International Competition
WCC photography student Toko Shiiki has won first place in the 2011 International Photography Awards. Shiiki won in the People: Other Portrait—Non-Pro category.
WCC Students Win Big at 2011 National Championships
WCC students in skilled trades programs placed first in two categories and second and third in two more at the national SkillsUSA Championships this summer in Kansas City, Mo.
Rep. David Rutledge is WCC 2011 Award of Merit Honoree
WCC will honor state Rep. David Rutledge with the College’s highest honor, the Award of Merit, at commencement on Saturday, May 21. The ceremony begins at 9:20am at the EMU Convocation Center on Hewitt Road.
Vocational Students Do Well at State Skills Meet
Nineteen vocational technology students from WCC were recognized for their efforts at the SkillsUSA 2011 state competition in April. SkillsUSA is the skill showcase for career and technical students.
