Borrowing/Renewing Library Materials
Borrowing Requirements and Information:
What do I use for a library card, how many items can I borrow, what are the loan
periods and overdue fines.
Renew Material:
An item may be renewed if it has not been requested by another patron. Overdue items may be renewed.
- You may renew books online from the library's online catalog by clicking the following link:
My Library Account.
- To renew an item by phone, call 734-973-3429.
What's my Library PIN?
Bailey Library patrons may view their library account online and renew library items. In order to
access your account, you need to enter your WCC ID number and your library-assigned PIN. Your default
PIN is "CHANGEME" -- once you have gained access to your online library account, you should use the
"change PIN" function to change your library PIN to something only you know (and will remember). Please
note that your library PIN is unconnected to any other PIN or password on campus, such as your email
password or your MyWCC login. Changing your PIN at the library will not change it anywhere else, and
changing a PIN in another web service will not affect your library PIN. We require the use of a library
PIN in addition to your WCC ID number to increase the level of security and confidentiality of access
to your library account.
If you are having problems with account access, please call the Circulation staff at 734-973-3429 during
open library hours.
Borrow from another library:
If a book or journal article is not available in the Library, you can request it through the Michigan eLibrary Catalog (MeLCat) or Interlibrary Loan (ILL). See the Interlibrary Loan page.
Materials Requests:
Request library materials for pickup or delivery by using the Materials Requests form.
See the Library Materials Requests page for details.
EMU Reciprocal Borrowing:
Bailey Library has a reciprocal borrowing agreement with Eastern Michigan University. WCC students and
faculty may borrow items directly from the EMU Library. Students must have a WCC Student photo ID, or
in the case of faculty, a Michigan driver's license or state ID. All limits, policies, and procedures
for direct borrowing are set by the EMU libraries. For more information, see the
Halle Library web page for visitors.
Overdues, fines and billing - general information:
Overdue fines for books from the general collection are $0.15 per day per item. Fines on Reserve
material, videos, and Math and WTMC calculators vary depending on the type of material, and may be as
high as $0.50 per day per item. Fines do not accrue on days when the library is closed.
Overdue notices are sent via email to the WCC email address assigned when you register. If you prefer
to use a different email address, you must arrange to forward your mail from your official WCC email
to another email address. For more information on activating your WCC email account and forwarding
mail, see the
Student E-mail information pages.
If an item becomes long overdue (approximately 45 days after the due date), it will be billed as lost.
The lost charge consists of the replacement cost of the book and a $10.00 processing fee. If the item
is returned after being billed, the replacement cost is deducted from the bill and the overdue fine for
that item added. If you have questions or concerns about bills or lost items, please contact Bethany Kennedy,
Director of Access Services by email at
or
by phone at at 734-477-8723.
College on Demand Special Borrowing Procedures:
College on Demand Distance students who live outside of Washtenaw County can request WCC-owned materials for
delivery to their homes.
See the COD Materials Delivery page for more information about what can be borrowed and how to
request items.
Library holds on your WCC registration and records account:
Unpaid bills totaling $5.00 and over will put your account on hold for registration, adding/changing
classes, getting grades online, ordering transcripts and some other college transactions. In addition,
at the end of each semester, any unpaid bill and/or overdue books will put your account on hold. You
can pay bills at the Circulation desk at Bailey Library during all open hours -- payment can be in cash
or by check. The only way to pay by credit card is to ask the Circulation staff to transfer your bill
to your general student account, and then using the procedures provided by the college Cashier's
office. If you have a library hold on your account and need more information or want to transfer a
bill, please call the Circulation staff at 734-973-3429 during open library hours. If you are preparing
to register or perform other transactions, and would like to make sure of the clear status of
your library account, please call the Circulation staff at the phone number above; they will be
happy to check your library account and provide information.
