EVACUATION LOCATION/ASSEMBLY AREA
The Emergency Evacuation location is dependent on what building you are located in.

If the designated assembly area is not a safe location because of an emergency incident, move to a location that is safe.
Do not leave campus until told to do so by your supervisor.
Assist others.

WORKPLACE VIOLENCE
If you are being threatened or assaulted:

Remain calm.
Dial 3411 for Campus Safety.
Keep something like a desk or door between you and the threatening person.
Keep eye contact.
If you can, get away from them.
Find others, there is safety in numbers.

TORNADO
If you are notified of sever weather or tornado:

Stay away from doors and windows.
Take a flashlight with you if one is available.
Go to the ground floor of the building.
Do not go outside until the all clear is given.

MEDICAL EMERGENCY
If you encounter a medical emergency on campus:

Call Campus Safety & Security at extension 3411.
Stay with the person.
Do not move the person unless absolutely necessary.
If he or she has stopped breathing do not attempt to use CPR unless you have been trained to use it.
Look for jewelry with an inscription indicating a medical condition.
Never give anything to drink to an unconscious or semi-conscious person.
Try to avoid getting blood or other bodily fluids on you, but if you do, make Campus Safety aware of it.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
In the event of an environmental or hazardous materials emergency:

Evacuate the room and lock the door.
Call Campus Safety at extension 3411. Give them the location of the incident and describe what has happened.

If you encounter a noxious odor or feel a burning sensation on your skin or in your eyes, exit the area and dial Campus Safety at extension 3411.

GAS LEAK
If you smell natural gas:

Dial 3411 and report it to Campus Safety.
Alert the dean or director responsible for the area.

If the odor is making you ill:

Leave the area.
Evacuate to your assembly area.

FIRE OR EXPLOSION
If you discover a fire or an explosion:

Dial 3411.
Pull the nearest fire alarm, which is located near most exit doors.
If the fire is easily extinguishable, and a fire extinguisher is handy, attempt to put it out.
Look for physically-challenged individuals and assist them in evacuating the building.
Evacuate to your assembly area.
Close the doors behind you as you leave.

EARTHQUAKE
If you feel severe tremors and believe an earthquake is occuring:

Duck or drop down on the floor.
Get under a sturdy table, desk, or other piece of furniture.
Avoid danger spots such as windows, hanging objects, mirrors, or tall items like bookcases and file cabinets.
Hold on to sturdy funiture and be prepared to move with it.
After the tremors stop evacuate the building.
Assist others in their evacuation.

DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR & DISTURBANCES

Remain calm.
Try to learn the nature of the disturbance.
Identify who's involved in the disturbance.
Contact the Campus Safety & Security Department at extension 3411.

»	Provide as much information as you can.
»	Be ready to describe the location of the incident, the number of participants, any weapons involved, physical characteristics and clothing worn by the particpants.

If you feel confident that you can calm the situation yourself, attempt it.

Avoid taking physical action whenever possible.

Position yourself away from potential harm.

CRIME
If you think a crime is occurring or about to occur dial 3411.

Remain calm.
Provide the dispatcher with as much information as possible.
Give the location of the incident.
Provide a description of the perpetrator(s).
Alert Campus Safety if a weapon is involved.
Describe what has happened or what is happening.
Keep the incident under observation and relay your information when Campus Safety & Security arrives.

BOMB THREAT
If you receive a bomb threat over the telephone, remain calm and attempt to determine the following:

When the bomb will go off, where the bomb has been placed, the type of bomb, why the caller is doing this.

Keep the caller on the line as long as possible and signal someone to call Campus Safety at extension 3411.

If they hang up call Campus Safety immediately at 3411 and report it. Make a record of:

The time of the call, the exact words and phrases used by the caller, the age and gender of the caller, the speech pattern and accent of the caller, and background noise.

If a bomb or suspicious package is discovered by mail:

Do not handle or open the package.
Call Campus Safety immediately.
Leave the area and warn others to leave the area.
Never attempt to disarm a bomb or suspected bomb. Do not touch it if at all possible. Do not use light switches or radios around the suspected bomb.
