Gallery One exhibts famous Mexican artist

As the third in the three-part series on Latin American art, WCC presents an exhibition of works by Mexican artist Leonardo Nierman. The exhibition runs from May 8 through June 22 in GalleryOne, first floor of the Student Center Building. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Widely regarded as one of Mexico’s leading contemporary artists, Leonardo Nierman creates works that challenge and inspire, drawing upon themes from the beauty of nature, his love of music, to the mysteries of the cosmos and beyond. A Life Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts in London, Nierman’s works, paintings, tapestries and sculptures are in major collections around the world, including the Vatican Gardens, the Albert Einstein Institute of New York, and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. To round out the exhibition there will be a reception and a Gallery Talk, Thusday, May 25 in GalleryOne. The Gallery Talk, by Sara Taylor, begins at 7 p.m. with a reception immediately following. Dr. Taylor, an Assistant Curator at the Art Institute of Chicago, has a Ph.D. in Mexican art from Bryn Mawr and has led a WCC class to Mr. Nierman’s studio in Mexico City. GalleryOne is open Monday and Tuesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. to noon. For more information please call (734) ext. 8512 or visit www.wccnet.edu/galleryone.
