Steps to Enroll at WCC

Once you have decided to attend Washtenaw Community College, there are four easy steps you need to follow in order to complete your enrollment.

Step 1 - Schedule your appointment for Orientation/Assessment

How do you find out more about WCC? Orientation explains it all: from where to buy your books and snacks (the Student Center Building) to the best place to catch a concert (the Morris Lawrence Building). You will even learn things like time management and study skills; we will give you plenty of information to help you succeed at WCC. As part of Orientation, you will be asked to complete the ASSET assessment of your skills in reading, writing, and math. This helps our advisors steer you toward the best classes for your abilities and educational goals.

Since Orientation sessions are limited to 30 participants each, you should call the Office of Admissions right away to schedule your appointment, 734-973-3543, or stop by the office on the second floor of the Student Center Building.

It's very important that you attend Orientation at your scheduled time because opportunities for rescheduling are limited.

Step 2 - Talk with an academic advisor and/or career counselor

How do you figure out which courses to take during which semesters? You start by meeting with an academic advisor, either from the Department of Counseling, Career Planning and Placement or from the faculty in your major. He or she will help you develop a semester-by-semester plan that gets you to your goal in the shortest period of time. It is important for you to remember that you are responsible for successfully completing 12 academic credits per semester in order to maintain your status with Washtenaw Community College and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

What do you do if you are not sure about your major or possible career path? Counselors from the Department of Counseling, Career Planning and Placement can help you explore your aptitudes and interests, and help you discover possible career options. You will be able to use both computer and print resources to find the information you need.

Questions? Stop by the Department of Counseling, Career Planning and Placement on the second floor of the Student Center Building, or call 734-677-5124.

Step 3 - Meet with the International Student Admissions Representative

Before you can register for classes, you must meet with the International Student Admissions Representative. Call 734-973-3315 or 734-973-3542 to schedule an appointment. Be sure you bring your I-20 and passport to this meeting. In addition, bring proof of your health insurance coverage which includes medical evacuation and repatriation benefits.

You will not be permitted to register for classes without this proof of insurance. Washtenaw Community College will not accept insurance payments.

Step 4 - Register for classes

After you have completed steps one through three, you should have in hand a signed registration card from an advisor. Now you are ready to register for classes. You can walk in and register on the second floor of the Student Center Building. Although the registration period runs for several weeks, we recommend you register early to be sure you get the courses you need at the times you need them.

Questions about the process? Call the phone numbers listed under each step or dial 734-973-3543 and the staff of the Office of Admissions will help you sort things out.
