Other Aid Other sources of financial assistance include employment and public agencies. The following organizations offer tuition assistance to students at Washtenaw Community College. Qualification requirements vary by organization. Please contact the agency listed for more information. Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) Phase 1 of the Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) pays community college resident rate tuition and fees for students from low income families. To be eligible, students must:
Native American Tuition Waiver (ITW) Program This program provides free tuition (student must pay fees) for academically qualified Native American Students. Students must be at least one-quarter Indian descent, enrolled in a degree, certificate or transfer program at Washtenaw Community College. To apply, students must submit tribal certification from the Inter-Tribal Council. Learning Support Services Learning Support Services assists students with disabilities and students who are economically disadvantaged or limited in their English proficiency. Tutors, interpreters, and readers, as well as specialized computer software and one-on-one assessments make Learning Support Services a valuable resource for many WCC students. Call 734-973-3342 or stop by LA 104. Student Resource and Women's Center The SRWC offers mentoring, cultural events, workshops, and networking opportunities for students, especially for women. Academic, career, and professional advising; learning styles assessment; educational planning and emergency financial assistance also are available. Contact Student Resource and Women's Center. AmeriCorps AmeriCorps is a national service program that provides tuition assistance in exchange for community service. Contact the AmeriCorps National Service Office at 800-942-2677 for more information. Michigan Rehabilitation Services Commission The Michigan Rehabilitation Services Commission may provide tuition assistance for physically and/or emotionally disabled or visually impaired students based on individual circumstances. Lab fees and supplies may also be provided depending on the availability of funds. Individuals seeking information should call 734-677-1125 or 877-901-9195 (toll free) to schedule an appointment. A short interview will be conducted at that time. Rehabilitation clients are usually required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Workforce Investment Act Funding under this program may provide full tuition, lab fees, books, required equipment, transportation expenses, and sometimes special service allowances for eligible students depending on the availability of funds. Administration of this program varies from community to community. Students are encouraged to contact Michigan Works! at 800-285-WORKS ext. 9675 or the local MWA. Applicants for this program are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Hope Tax Credit, Lifetime Learning Tax Credit, and Student Loan Interest Deduction, and Tuition and Fees Deduction These tax incentives may be available for certain college expenses.
