Residency
This page defines residency status and explains how to change your address or residency status.
Residency status affects your tuition rate. For more information on tuition, and tuition discounts not based on residency, see the
tuition rates and fees page.

Notes:
- If you are meeting the requirements through marriage or IRS dependency status,
you must document that the spouse or parent/guardian meet the residency requirements
and you must also provide documents that demonstrate the relationship (marriage
certificate for spouse, most recent year’s income tax forms for IRS dependents).
- If you are a recently discharged veteran, the six month in-state requirement is waived
when you provide a copy of your discharge papers.
- The per credit hour tuition rate for Distance Learning classes is not based on residency status.
- A $15 scholarship will be applied to each credit hour taken by out-district students at
the Brighton or Hartland Centers, unless they already have the Property In-District rate, or the Work In-District rate.
- The College reserves the right to adjust its tuition rates at any time.
Changing Address
To change your address in WCC records submit an Address Change Form (PDF)
to the Student Connection.
Changing Residency Status
To change your residency status submit a Residency Appeal Form (PDF)
to the Student Connection.
Be sure to include the required documents (see form).
Deadline
The review process takes at least 48 hours after you submit your documents. Changes need to be submitted in time
to be reviewed before the semester payment deadline in order to affect the tuition charged. Students with a pending residency change
should make full payment by the payment deadline and bring their balance to zero, even if the new residency rate is not yet applied.
Any residency status change after the start of the semester will be effective the next semester in attendance.
Enrollment Services reserves the right to determine whether the documentation submitted qualifies for a change
in residency status, and to ask for additional documentation.
