Advance Ypsi

Ypsilanti-focused initiative brings job training and education to boost quality of life.

Washtenaw Community College is excited to announce a new initiative called Advance Ypsi that will give Ypsilanti High Schools (YCS) students and adults in the community an opportunity to obtain an education and training for high-wage, high-demand jobs to fill employer talent needs.

Through a partnership with Detroit Drives Degrees Community College Collaborative (D3C3), spearheaded by the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce and funded by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation and the Balmer Group, participants in Advance Ypsi will have the opportunity to be educated in WCC mobility-focused manufacturing, automotive, and IT certificate programs and receive career preparation through industry partners.

Advance Ypsi builds upon WCC’s long-standing relationship with YCS, helping students through dual enrollment strategies to succeed in education and pursuit of meaningful careers. Advance Ypsi supports students, their parents and adults in the community with the goal of increasing access to education and helping them to find a sustainable career.

Advance Ypsi seeks to enroll 100 YCS high school students and 200 adults from the community. Students will be provided with career coaching, advising, mentoring and education support systems, job training and experience and placement support.

WCC’s faculty is working closely with YCS and employers to develop this special program that combines classroom instruction with real-world experience to equip students for high-demand jobs.

Employers will benefit from candidates who are trained and prepared to fill their talent needs, and the local economy will benefit from more people employed in high paying, in-demand jobs.

The program will begin for students in the Fall 2023 semester. If you are interested in Advance Ypsi, complete the form on this page, and WCC will contact you with more information. WCC and industry partners will hold information sessions for the community this spring and summer. Watch for more details.

There are a variety of scholarships available to help you finance your education and reach your career goals.

Free in-district tuition is available with the Michigan Reconnect Scholarship for eligible adults 25 and over to attend college. Visit the website for eligibility requirements, steps to complete to determine eligibility, and for Reconnect Information Sessions.
