The Police Academy curriculum is over 883 hours in length. Participants will be required to demonstrate proficiency, via written and physical skill testing, in seven areas:

  • Investigations and law
  • Patrol procedures
  • Detention and prosecution
  • Police skills
  • Traffic enforcement
  • Special operations
  • Computer/internet skills

Required physical skill components are:

  • Firearms
  • First aid
  • Emergency vehicle operations
  • Subject control (defensive tactics)
  • Physical training


Police Academy faculty supply the program expertise in the fields of law, exercise physiology, use-of-force training and technology. Many are active police officers.
