Tech Prep

What does the Tech Prep program mean to me?

It means earning credits towards a high school diploma and college degree at the same time. Students enrolled in participating high schools can get a jump start on their college education for free.

College credit is offered for many courses taught state-wide. When courses are approved for a state-wide agreement you will earn credit if your high school is authorized by the State of Michigan to offer the course/program and you meet certain minimum academic criteria. A Student Performance Recommendation form is required from the High School teacher. A few courses are approved only for courses taught at local high schools. See the Accelerated College Credit page to view eligible courses.

Other advantages:

  • Prepare early for a technological and competitive job market.
  • Get a head start on your career and make a smooth transition into college.
  • Control education costs by earning accelerated college credits at no out-of-pocket expenses by applying them toward your college degree.
  • Prepare for a great career while you're still in high school by gaining a greater awareness of future choices.
  • Take college-credited classes right at your own high school.

How do I enroll?

Students must be recommended by their high school instructor and must apply for the credit(s) within two years of graduation from high school. The instructor prepares student performance records and submits all candidates eligible for this program directly to WCC. However, the student may ask the high school instructor for a recommendation based upon individual academic performance prior to leaving high school.
