Mobile Classroom

Education That Moves With the Community

Washtenaw Community College is taking education on the road with its new Mobile Classroom, a flexible learning space designed to bring hands-on training, technology, and college support services directly into the communities WCC serves.

Launching in Summer 2026, the Mobile Classroom represents a new way for WCC to connect with learners where they are - in neighborhoods, schools, community centers, workplaces, and partner locations throughout the region. By bringing educational opportunities beyond campus, WCC is helping make college more visible, accessible, and connected to the everyday needs of the community.

The Mobile Classroom is designed to reduce barriers that can keep people from pursuing education and training, including transportation, technology access, and limited awareness of available programs. Instead of asking every learner to come to campus first, WCC can bring the college experience directly to them - creating welcoming opportunities for exploration, skill-building, career preparation, and connection.

Inside the Mobile Classroom, students and community members will be able to participate in hands-on learning, discover career pathways, connect with WCC programs, and receive support services such as admissions, registration, and job training information. The mobile space also gives employers and community partners a new way to collaborate with WCC on workforce development, demonstrations, outreach events, and customized training opportunities.

The space is designed for flexibility. It can seat up to 20 students in a traditional classroom or lecture setting, or be reconfigured to host events, demonstrations, and interactive showcases featuring state-of-the-art equipment. With wireless internet throughout, easy-to-configure lab and classroom space, double expandable sides, and a fully heated and air-conditioned interior, the Mobile Classroom is built to support learning in a wide range of environments.

When fully expanded, the Mobile Classroom provides approximately 1,000 square feet of space for instruction, equipment demonstrations, presentations, and community engagement. The 48-foot-long mobile unit is designed to deliver a full classroom experience wherever it is needed.

Participants will be able to explore educational and career pathways in areas such as advanced manufacturing, robotics, mechatronics, 3D printing, computer skills, health care, job training, admissions and registration support, and more. Whether introducing students to high-demand careers, supporting local employers, or connecting residents with college resources, WCC’s Mobile Classroom reflects the college’s commitment to access, innovation, and community partnership.

By bringing education directly into the community, WCC is creating more ways for people to see themselves as college students, skilled workers, lifelong learners, and future leaders. The Mobile Classroom is more than a vehicle - it is a bridge between WCC and the people, places, and organizations that help the region thrive.
