This summer, kick off your first college experience … for FREE!
Washtenaw Community College is excited to host its first Summer Advantage Program. This three-week, no-cost program is open to any Michigan resident who graduated from high school or earned a GED in 2023 and is planning to attend any college or university in the fall. WCC’s Summer Advantage runs from Monday, July 17 to Friday, August 4 and will help prepare students for a successful transition to college. Daily sessions include an instructor-led comprehensive college writing component and self-paced mathematics support through the online program ALEKS. There will also be various workshops on career planning, time management and other college success strategies.
Seats are limited, and students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
WCC will provide
- All learning materials, including a loaner laptop.
- A $400 stipend, based on attendance and participation.
- Breakfast and lunch each day.
- Instruction from professional teachers.
- Small class sizes for individual attention.
- Individual mentoring/tutoring.
- Engagement activities, resources and college success strategies.
- Transportation assistance to and from campus.
How to Enroll
- Fill out the Summer Advantage registration form
- After submitting the form, you will receive information about how to attend an information session and schedule placement testing.
- Participate in the mandatory Summer Advantage orientation on Monday, July 10 (time TBD).
Program Dates
- Orientation: Monday, July 10 (time TBD)
- Week 1: Monday, July 17 through Thursday, July 20 (8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
- Week 2: Monday, July 24 through Thursday, July 27 (8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
- Week 3: Monday, July 31 through Friday, Aug. 4 (8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
Program Schedule
- 8:30-8:55 a.m. — Check-in and breakfast
- 9-10:30 a.m. — Session 1
- 10:30-11:50 a.m. — Session 2
- 12-1 p.m. — Lunch & Learn session
There are two options to participate in WCC’s Summer Advantage:
On campus: Most students in WCC’s Summer Advantage program will meet on WCC’s campus. You will receive additional information about the meeting place via email after submitting your registration.
Online: A limited number of students will be provided an option to meet virtually (in real-time). You will receive additional information and a link to the meeting room via email after submitting your registration and indicating your preference to attend virtually.
NO! The program is funded by the State of Michigan, so there is no cost to you. In fact, students who do not miss more than two days of WCC’s Summer Advantage will receive a $400 stipend for completing the program.

A mandatory orientation session will be held on Monday, July 10. Attendance is also required each day of the program, which runs from Monday through Thursday the first two weeks and Monday through Friday the final week for a total of 13 days.
To earn the $400 program stipend, students must successfully complete the program and not miss more than two days of instruction. Students must attend the mandatory orientation session to participate.
