As President of the Michigan FPA, we are in need of more financial planners. Many people think that Financial Planning is a pure numbers career, when in fact my psychology degree plays the most important role in what I do daily. The industry needs diversification as more people are being left to create their own retirement, with few skills to do so. A 401k or 401A are not pensions with guarantees. The wrong moves can destroy someone's dreams. Americans also live with debt and high interest rates, robbing them of their future. Getting on a budget, planning where your money goes is paramount to a successful future, no matter what income a person makes. Jobs in this field can be quite lucrative, and empowering. Para Planners, with an associate's degree, can make between $40,000 and $100,000. Income for an advisor can be unlimited, with the average being around $80,000.
