WCC freezes in-district tuition; lowers online rates for 2026-2027 academic year.

Tuition for in-district county residents attending Washtenaw Community College (WCC) will remain the lowest in the state next academic year, as the college freezes rates and reduces online tuition.

In an ongoing commitment to affordability, WCC’s Board of Trustees has voted to hold in-district tuition steady and reduce online tuition to match the $99 per credit rate for on-campus courses.

The Board has also approved placing a renewal of the college’s operating millage on the August 4 ballot. Millage support helps the college keep tuition affordable for students and families.

“Keeping tuition low is central to our mission of opening doors to the community we serve,” said WCC President Dr. Rose B. Bellanca. “For 60 years, WCC has remained focused on access and opportunity – ensuring college is affordable while maintaining the high-quality programs, support services, information technology and cutting-edge labs aligned with industry needs that help our students succeed.”

WCC continues to be among Michigan’s most affordable college options, consistently offering the state’s lowest published in-district tuition rate among community colleges and strong value for students seeking high-quality, accessible education.

To address rising operational costs, the Board approved modest tuition increases of 3 percent for out-of-district and out-of-state students, along with adjustments to online rates.

The college’s ability to maintain affordable tuition is made possible in part through longstanding support from the Washtenaw County community. A renewal and restoration of the WCC operating millage will appear on the August 4 ballot for county voters.

The proposal would permit the college to continue to levy up to 0.85 mill that was previously approved by electors to fund operations for 10 years.

Of the 0.85 mill, 0.8109 mill represents a renewal of the 0.85 mill authorization approved by the electors in 2016 – which will expire with the 2026 tax levy – and 0.0391 mill represents a restoration of that portion of the same millage authority which was reduced by application of the Headlee Amendment.
