WCC: An important asset to the community

Herbert

With more than 45 years experience in financial and institutional endowment management, Norman Herbert is the right man for the job as treasurer of the Washtenaw Community College Foundation’s Executive Board.

Herbert retired in 2002 as associate vice president and treasurer at the University of Michigan, where he spent 35 years of his career.

“Playing a role as a member of the WCC Executive Foundation Board is very satisfying,” Herbert said. “That satisfaction comes from knowing that money raised for the Foundation, along with returns from its endowments, provide the crucial financial support WCC students need to advance their education.”

“I’m also very pleased with the college’s shift in recent years to address partnership opportunities and programs that are appealing to students, including those people in the community looking for a refresher course or developing a new interest,” said Herbert.

Herbert also notes the significant economic benefit WCC provides to the community, citing its partnerships with the Iron Workers, and the United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters, Sprinkler Fitters, Welders and HVACR Technicians, as well as the college’s new Entrepreneurship Center – all of which provide significant economic benefits to the community and region.

“We are very honored and privileged to have Norman as treasurer of the Foundation Board,” said Julaine LeDuc, executive director of the Foundation. “We highly regard his breadth of knowledge in financial matters and are so appreciative of his genuine devotion to help our students overcome any financial barriers to their success.”

Though officially retired, Herbert continues to be active with a number of professional, civic and non-profit organizations including: the University Musical Society, Jewish Family Services – Herb Amster Center, the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, the Washtenaw Health Initiative, the Ann Arbor Rotary and the Sphinx Organization.
