Washtenaw Community College and the 13 other members of the Academic Consortium at the American Center for Mobility (ACM) want to expose their students to the connected and autonomous vehicles industry.
Industry leaders involved at ACM want access to the talent at those academic institutions.
Those two goals will be met on Friday, February 23, when “ACM Career Exploration: The Future of Self-Driving Vehicles” is held at Willow Run Airport, 801 Kirk Profit Drive in Ypsilanti.
The day is split between exposing military veterans (9 a.m. to noon) and current students (1 to 4 p.m.) to the ACM — including a tour of the facility and rides in a self-driving vehicle —and its industry partners.
“We want students to learn and experience self-driving vehicles and get excited about the opportunities that are available in the connected and automated space,” said ACM Chief Innovation Officer Soraya Kim. “We’re also passionate about our veterans and have specifically included them in our morning program.”
WCC is registering students and student veterans to attend the event. Representatives of the college’s Career Services department and its Wadhams Veterans Center will be on hand to answer questions regarding WCC enrollment.
The companies expected to participate include AT&T, Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, Visteon, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler, Honda, Subaru and others.
Those organizations will be accepting resumes for future co-ops, internships, summer hires and other job opportunities.
