Be an Alpha Scholar
Starting college is a major milestone in your life! Being an Alpha Scholar helps ease the transition by helping you find the support you need to adjust to life at Washtenaw Community College, to succeed in the classroom, and to make connections with classmates, faculty and staff.
As our mascot, Alpha, can attest: The strength of the wolf is the pack. This is your chance to get involved, build relationships, feel connected to our community, and capitalize on all the personalized support WCC has to offer. It's an opportunity to form your pack, one that will stick with you from Day 1 through graduation and beyond.
All first-year, full-time, degree-seeking students are eligible to be an Alpha Scholar. You'll meet other new students at Alpha Scholars events and have priority registration status for a block of courses that will keep your pack – peers with similar academic interests – together to deepen your college experience.
Every Alpha Scholar is assigned an academic advisor and success coach, experts who will listen to your goals and guide you to success. Your commitment is to attend regular meetings with your coach and advisor to stay engaged in the program and keep gaining momentum toward graduation.
Sounds great, right? But, wait, there's much more! Alpha Scholars also have direct access to transfer resources, financial support, career planning and other opportunities to keep you connected and focused.
In compliance with Division B, Title V, Section 505 of Public Law 115-245, Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2019, the cost of the Alpha Scholars program is $1,869,312, 78% ($1,464,712) of which is financed with Federal funding and 22% ($404,600) is financed through non-governmental sources.
If you are a Fall 2022 student who is new to college and studying full-time toward an associate degree, you can be an Alpha Scholar. Former dual-enrolled high school students may also participate in the program.
- Engage with other students and make new friends through various events and workshops.
- Connect to faculty with the program’s “Smart Pairs” - linked courses you'll take with the same group of students.
- Remain on track to graduate with ongoing support from your academic advisor and success coach.
