About William (Joe) Hoppe
I am a strong believer in the power of community colleges, and have managed to take community college classes in every city that I have lived in. I have a degree from Jackson Community College (now Jackson College) and from 1996 to 2020 taught English, Creative Writing, and Humanities at Austin Community College in Austin, TX, first as an adjunct and then after eleven years as a full timer.
The sheer variety of experience held by community college students, whether due to age, activities, country or origin, or just plain interesting life choices makes it a joy to be in the classroom.
In the summer 0f 2021 my wife Polly and I relocated to Chelsea from Austin, in order to be near my aging parents. We are looking forward to making more connections and becoming part of the community.
I am thrilled to be continuing my career at WCC, and especially happy to be teaching Creative Writing again.
